Rometer Optical Flatness Systems

Today’s Rometer incorporates over 30 years of metals product experience and now benefits from the proven NDC TDi system platform. NDC’s Total Distributed Intelligence (TDi) architecture creates a fully digital system that improves system speed, reduces system complexity and improves reliability. TDi also reduces installation and commissioning costs. Fewer components and interconnections make maintenance and troubleshooting very easy. The architecture has been proven on thousands of different NDC processes and applications since its introduction in 2006.The Rometer continues to be the industry leader for high performance, non-contact flatness measurement delivering unmatched measurement capability, the best reliability and overall value.

The Rometer models provide configuration flexibility for the most demanding applications such as hot strip mills, Steckel mills and plate mills regardless of mill size, configuration or age.  The single, compact sensor box and small measurement area makes the Rometer ideal for existing mills, either as a new gauge or upgrade of an older gauge.  The measurement capability and system features not only provide the fastest and most accurate flatness measurement, but when combined with a flatness control system improve product yield and quality.

Rometer F300 Flatness System
The Rometer F300 provides the highest flatness measurement capability available. It is the standard for the newest high quality hot mills worldwide. The Rometer F300 features a unique three-plane measurement configuration that provides accurate flatness measurement regardless of strip movement such as bouncing, waves, tilting, etc. The gauge also incorporates edge tracking that automatically positions the measurement points for various strip widths to ensure optimum cross machine resolution and edge measurement at all times.

The three-plane configuration also provides the fastest flatness measurement at the strip head end, typically after only 1 meter of strip. When combined with AFC (Automatic Flatness Control) on the last stand this ensures flatness quality is within specification on virtually the entire coil thereby improving coil yield through reduced head-end scrap and quality rejects.

Rometer FQC Flatness System
The Rometer FQC version provides fast, accurate flatness measurement for strip and plate products without significant strip movement. This version is designed for quality monitoring providing the operator and quality systems a flatness measurement when automatic flatness control is not utilized.

The Rometer FQC uses a one or two-plane configuration based on mill type, line speeds and corresponding strip movement. On plate mills up to 15 measurements across the plate are used to ensure high cross-machine resolution. The FQC includes many of the same reliability features as the Rometer F300 including the TDI architecture, sealed sensor box and system cooling.

ROMETER FQC & F300 Systems

  • ROMETER FQC-1: 1-plane gauge, for strip or plates thicknesses > 2.5 mm.
  • ROMETER FQC-2: 2-plane gauge, for strip thicknesses < 2.5 mm, or plates without rotation movements.
  • ROMETER F200-3: 3-plane gauge for strip thicknesses < 2.5 mm, or plates with rotation movements.
