Rubber Calendering

NDC’s intelligent TDi (Total Distributed Intelligence) web gauging system can be configured for most all rubber calendering applications. It provides a complete range of measurement and advanced control solutions for the common rubber calender applications including:

Gum (inner liner) Calenders:

  • 2/3 roll gum
  • 4 roll (2x2) gum
  • 3 roll plus 2 roll gum

Textile (fabric) Calenders and Wire (steel cord, metallic) Calenders:

  • 4 roll S
  • Inclined Z

For fast start-up and continuous quality, it is preferable to install gauges on the calender itself to give immediate measurement of the top and bottom liners. NDC offers three ‘on calender’ gauging solutions depending on space and environmental conditions. They are the x-ray backscatter (XRB), laser thickness and gamma backscatter (GBS) gauges. Where space permits, any of these NDC gauges can be configured to scan each liner, but where the space is strictly limited, then the GBS gauge is the most suitable option. The choice of gauge will depend on the application.

For post-calender scanning profile measurements, NDC is able to provide a comprehensive rubber and wire measurement package. This includes a beta gauge for measuring total weight, a laser gauge for total thickness. The XRB sensors are used to calculate the top/bottom liner balance, while the XRT sensor performs the wire count calculation.
