The Process Challenge and NDC Technologies' Solution
Pack Time needed accurate and reliable coat weight measurements for their adhesive coating and laminating processes. The process involved applying lacquer, primer and solvent-based adhesive coatings to aluminium foil. Familiar with NDC Technologies’ reputation for innovation and service, they installed a complete, integrated measurement system comprising of the SR710 on-line near infrared (NIR) gauge and MiniTrak S-Frame scanner.
With its reputation for fast, high-precision and stable scanning, coupled with its space-saving design, MiniTrak S is perfectly designed to meet today’s stringent quality standards. When coupled with the SR710 NIR gauge, the system provides high-speed gauging performance and offers versatile measurements of coat weight across a wide range of products. The versatile gauge is also unaffected by changes in process and ambient conditions, such as light fluctuations, temperature, relative humidity, air quality, web flutter and batch-to-batch substrate variations.
Similarly, Pack Time also needed a solution to monitor and control the basis weight in their tandem extrusion coating and laminating process. For this, they selected NDC’s Beta Kr-85 transmission gauge and MiniTrak O-Frame scanner with Automatic Profile Control (APC).
NDC’s MiniTrak O-Frame delivers fast, accurate and reliable quality measurements and is tightly integrated into an intelligent and distributed web gauging architecture. In addition, NDC’s Beta sensor with its unique design delivers high measurement repeatability with minimum radiation emission. The signal to noise ratio provided by the technology is exceptional, and being coupled with Pack Time’s oscillation t-die mechanism to provide accurate t-die mapping, gives exceptional process visibility and control.
